A branchline mixed train has stopped and its crew, not in regulation passenger uniform, is posing on the edge of a Great Plains town. An E-1 4-6-0, a boxcar and a combine coach, its markers suggesting that this train is still being made up, together perhaps the most powerful tools ever for ending the frontier in America."

It operated a mixed train, daily including Sunday for much of its history. This three car specimen was a typical train."
