- Title: Seasonal stocking of tobosa managed under continuous and rotation grazing
- Journal: Journal of Range Management
- Authors: D. M. Anderson
- Date: 1988
- Summary: Tobosa (Hilaria mutica) was seasonally grazed with cattle in New Mexico, under continuous stocking treatments in 1980 and 1981. Grazing strategies did not influence the proportion of green tobosa within the standing crop. However, flexible rotation produced a more uniform use of green tobosa within the cell, when compared to grazing with fixed intervals between rotations. In this study, flexible rotation of cattle among paddocks, based on a 30-35% reduction of tobosa standing crop height, reduced gray tobosa within the standing crop more than with the continuous stocking treatment. Total h ...

- Title: Increase in number of dominant plants and dominance-classes on a grassland in the northern Chihuahuan Desert
- Journal: Journal of Range Management
- Authors: R. P. Gibbens, and R. F. Beck
- Date: 1987
- Summary: Permanent quadrats were established inside and outside of grazing exclosures on various vegetation types in the Jornada Experimental Range between 1915 and 1932, in order to measure shifts in dominant species composition. Between the establishment of the quadrats and 1981, the dominant species in many of the vegetation types had changed to be more shrub dominated, but the most apparent changes occurred in the black grama (Bouteloua eriopoda) vegetation type where black grama was completely absent from all plots where it was previously dominant. In some cases, dominant sp ...
