| Caption: "NP Class W-2 2-8-2 no. 1919 in yard service at Dickinson, North Dakota. Alco built this engine in July 1905 under construction no. 31134 as a tandem compound, and NP numbered it 1619. NP converted it to a simple expansion locomotive and renumbered it from 1619 to 1919 in July 1912. Shop forces dismantled this engine at Brainerd, Minnesota, in 1958. In the early 1950s, Dickinson crews liked Class W-2s for yard service, especially sister engine no. 1917, but it was destroyed in a head-on collision at Wibaux, Montana, on September 20, 1954." | |
