Summary of Methods: Wilkins and Swank measured the effects of a short duration grazing system and a deferred rotation grazing system on the habitat selection of bobwhites in south Texas. They found that bobwhites preferred the SDG over the DRG, due to the increase in herbaceous species richness, wintering forbs and a decrease in ground litter on the SDG sites. The survival rate of bobwhites was much higher on the SDG, in addition to an increase in their reproductive rate. The authors cautioned that their study was short term and therefore, does not represent successional results due to the SDG system.
