Summary of Methods: Taylor suggests that vegetation structure is very important to most passerine birds. The numerous layers of canopy are used by many different bird species, especially in riparian areas. Author states that cattle grazing is having an adverse effect on canopy structure, consequently deceasing bird numbers in comparison to sites that have not seen cattle in 40 years. Cattle concentrate heavily on tree saplings. Author warns that the reduction in saplings now is effecting the tree canopy of the future.
