Date: June 19, 1951 Location: South Tacoma, WA Photographer: Ron V. Nixon Railroad: Northern Pacific Railway Caption: "NP 1775, Class W-3 at South Tacoma Yards. She was built in June 1918 and dismantled in September 1953. This group of 2-8-2 was constructed in 3 separate orders for the NP by Alco at their Brooks plant over a 7 year period (1913: 1700-1749; 1917: 1750-1769; 1918: 1770-1809; 1920: 1810-1834). These heavy Mikados provided mainline muscle intially to replace older and smaller locomotives and later on to power the increased tonnage realized during WWII." |

Fifty of this class of locomotive were still listed on the roster in 1956." |
