Originally Nos. 500 and 501, it is said they were designed to haul trains on the steep temporary track over the Cascades before completion of Stampede Tunnel. Afterward they were in mountain freight service, then on the Camas Prairie. Later they were used as switchers in Spokane, Tacoma and Hoquiam.
