The rock is named Maiden Rock; before 1806 and Lewis and Clark, there was a Spirit Maiden standing on the rock and the Sioux and Nez Perce, who were fighting each other, thought she spoke to them. Vintage 5x7 in. glass plate negative, 5x7 in. copy print.
