Lost Key

One day
I found a key lying in the road
And couldn't help but wonder to whom it belonged
More so where it belonged
Where it fit
I got to wondering
About the millions of different locks
One would have to try it in
Just to find its home
And if it didn't open a home
What it unlocked?
Such a mystery cannot be solved
Unless the key's owner discovers the lost themselves
If the key hid a possession valuable
The one locking it away
Should not have held the key so easy to lose
To end up lying in the road
How many more lost keys are in the world?
Unable to return once more to their position
Not able to open
Just lost
