Abstract: From its inception in 1975, the Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC) has emphasized the development and operational production of micro- and mesoscale weather forecasts for the surrounding mountains. This service is designed to meet the critical needs of local avalanche forecasters and controllers who are challenged by rapid changes in snow stability caused by the frequent storms and fluctuating freezing levels of a maritime climate.
