Abstract: In recent years the opportunity create web map services, user-friendly and up to date geographic information for very low licensing costs and IT development facilities, cause a significant increased in the use of mapping dynamic for territory development. With this technological change, a webmapping interface and a WMS service, accessible through various geographic portals are being developed by Cemagref and the Ministry of Environment. They must allow the public release of data produced under the EPA, the CLPA and SSA in the Alps and the Pyrenees. The current and historical maps (dating back more than a century) will be available and it will be possible to query various maps to highlight key information the website already in place (www.avalanches.fr). With a second phase of development, exploiting the current Cemagref work on the interoperability of avalanches databases, the webmapping interface will be linked to the database. To implement this first phase of the project, a number of methods and strategies must be employed. • Clear definition of data to be integrated into the tool • Definition of ergonomics and the graphical interface of the future • Choice of technology • Compliance with the law and geographical distribution of data.
