Abstract: The conditions of natural triggering of full-depth slab avalanches are not well known. The mechanism is complex , due to creep phenomena which are very influenced by local topography, there are only very few studies about. This work considers theses avalanches at the scale of the massif (» 800 km2) but only in the case of dry or partially wet snowpacks, the case of full-depth avalanches with a completely wet snowpack being a little better known. The study will use on the one hand the observations of the weather and snow network in the ski resorts to characterize the full-depth slab avalanches activity during the winter seasons since 1987, on the other hand the SURFEX-Crocus modelling in order to rebuild the detailed snow cover chronology. Comparing in early season observations and during avalanche activity observations with modelled data could contribute to better characterize the favourable conditions for unstable snowpacks forming and for full-depth slabs triggering.
