They journey turns north to Deception Pass, La Connor Station (where he comments on local agricultural operations), Samish Island, Sehome (where he comments on Lake Whatcom and the mill, and abundance of coal in the area), and on to Bellingham Bay. They journey then turns back south, passing by Camano Island, to Holmes Harbor on Whidbey Island. Vol. 4 is the journey from Whidbey Island to Seattle. They pass by Rocky Point and continue south, then east to Tulalip Bay, Port Gardner [Everett], and back to Seattle, ending the journey at Olympia. He then returns to Portland by train.
