Item Title   Black and white photo of a large group of people watching and event, part of the Sun Lodge Ceremonies, Browning, Montana, 1927 Photographer   Schultz, James Willard, 1859-1947 Date Created   1927 Abstract   Several Indian men arranged in a semi circle appear to be watching an event, many of these men are sitting in the front playing drums. Several tipis are visible in the background as well as permanant structures and a wagon. Written on verso: Browning, July 1-4, 1927. Young men resting the stringers against the outer wall of Sun Lodge. Structure- strips of rawhide, ceremonially cut, are used to tie the long poles to the wall or fence. Old men in different societies dance and sing while the lodge is being erected.
