About the Montana State University Student Papers
The Montana State University Student Papers
What is it?
The Montana State University (MSU) student papers were written primarily by students enrolled in classes taught by Dr. Merrill G. Burlingame during his teaching career at Montana State University and date from 1920 through 1976. Students examined a broad spectrum of local, county, biographical, social, and environmental historical topics in Montana history and documented their work with bibliographies. The physical arrangement of the papers is alphabetical by author. Printed title and subject indices were created by Montana State University Special Collections personnel in the 1980s and this database, which allows searching by subject terms, was created afterwards. The subject terms were standardized in 2017, allowing citation access to each of the papers based on a controlled vocabulary similar to the one used by the Library of Congress.
