Abstract: CEMAGREF Nivologie has conducted several experiments with the GAZEX system, a new oxygen-propane avalanche blasting device patented and now manufactured and marketed by the ·Schippers· Company. One such investigation made a comparison between the dynamite and the GAZEX systems to access the efficiency (approx. twice as strong as the normal charge one) and the harmlessness towards people and goods. GAZEX systems have already been sold in Europe to several ski resorts and in America to control some avalanches that threaten major highways.
