Abstract: Scientific research on snow avalanches and land use planning is relatively modern. We know of no previous work that analyzes the knowledge transfer about the snow avalanches to the regional/spatial planning applications. This study is based on a qualitative analysis in the field of avalanches over the territories of Andorra, France, Canton de Valais and Catalunya. One overall objective of this research is to understand knowledge transfer between different stakeholders who are interested in snow avalanches from knowledge generation to organs or agents of decision making. The methodological approach of qualitative research and the Grounded Theory will allow to develop a theory emerging during the study is forming. Another main objective of this study is to provide a classification of the lines of research on snow avalanches and their more frequent interrelationships so that the international community has a working basis for an agreed upon conceptualization of the various branches of research on snow avalanches relatable with the regional/spatial planning, which can also be used generically. We analyzed the most cited literature to establish a conceptual map of scientific research on snow avalanches relatable to regional/spatial planning. The map is proposed for discussion and review by the international community related to snow avalanches. It is not intended to make definitive, but exhibit a guide for reflection. Once approved and codified by the community, this would create a metadata structure to link the items that the scientific community publishes in relation to both fields of knowledge: snow avalanches and regional/spatial planning.
