Abstract: In 2010 GTS realized 550m of Snow bridges (Avalanche supporting structures) in the town of Oz-en-Oisans that was asked for by RTM and the General council of Isere. For this Contract GTS proposed a variant to the standard snow rakes (avalanche supporting structures), which would reduce the carbon impact, a better integration on to the site by using crude steel rather than using Galvanized steel which is more visible. Given the fact of the heterogeneity of the site the geotechnical study had not been complete, So once we were on site we had to adapt some of the snow Bridges to dissipate the charge on the snow bridges, the main problem was dimensioning & building the foundations on a steep and high slope. This job site was also a good occasion to use a new type of snow bridge which is composed of 85% wood and the rest is steel. These snow bridges were assembled on the parts where access was easy and helicoptered with a single anchor to the installation spot. For our personal feedback we installed captors between the snow bridge and the anchor to compare the pressure indicated in the Norms and the pressure in real applications.
