Summary of Methods: Loft et al. found that cattle can have an affect on mule deer habitat selection when forage quality and quantity are low in the late summer. Moderate to heavy cattle grazing seemed to push mule deer out of their preferred habitats and made them select lower quality forage. The authors believe that this kind of pressure can have an adverse affect on mule deer fitness and can be detrimental to optimal growth.
