Summary of Methods: In this study a short duration grazing system was initiated to homogenize the distribution of standing crop in Mexican oak-bunchgrass pastures. Grazing cattle in the short duration grazing system for four years did not create uniform standing crop within or among pastures. Standing crop was low in areas close to the central watering point (0 - 900 m from water) and greatest in areas further from the watering point (> 900 m). The uneven distribution of standing crop was most likely caused by increased cattle use in areas closer to the watering point. Increasing the stocking rate under short duration grazing did not standardize utilization throughout the pasture as was expected and therefore other management techniques should be considered.

Annotation: Animals were rotated on the basis of 4-day grazing periods in the eastern 4 pastures and 3-day grazing periods in the western 4 pastures. Stocking rate varied from 7 ha/AU - 14 ha/AU during the trial based on available vegetation and animal performance.,Standing crop biomass of grasses was determined by clipping 1-m square quadrats randomly located within each strata. Quadrats were clipped at the end of each growing season from 1983-1986.
