Help Searching This Website
Different Ways to Search this Site
Browse searches are pre-programmed and focused on a pre-defined term such as: tribal name, or native person's name, or type of digital object, or all the digital objects contributed by a specific institution. The Browse searches will return all objects associated with the pre-defined search term. Browse searches are found on the Homepage, Search page and below on this page.
The Quick Search searches the database's title, location, date, description and artist/photographer fields for matches to the word string input by the enduser. It will return any object that has a match. The Quick Search is found in both the blue navigation bar at the top of each webpage and on the Search page.
To use the Advanced Search, select the Advanced Search tab on the Search page. The Advanced Search searches for objects that only have the specific search criteria of the tribal name, and/or location shown in the object, and/or name of native persons identified in the object.
For example: it will look for objects that have matches for both tribe and location; or tribe and native person's name; or tribe and location and native person's name.
